Beautiful landscaping can stand out like a rose among thorns. Too often, however, people focus on picking pretty plants instead of learning about the composition of the underlying soil. Knowing the soil can ensure that the right plants will flourish instead of withering on the vine — even the slightest modification to the soil can drastically improve a plant’s survival. The perfect landscaping plants can’t be chosen until what makes up the land itself is understood.

Join Professor Nina Bassuk from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and landscape architect Zac Rood as they discuss how the right soil can support the right plant growth and what to think about when taking a trip to the local home and garden store.
